Helen Stocker's Journey in Libraries
I began my career in libraries in 2010. By November 2019, I transitioned to becoming a school librarian. Early in my career, I discovered Elizabeth Hutchinson and signed up for in-person training on FOSIL with the School Library Association in April 2020.
Fast forward to February 2024. It was announced that the senior schools would merge onto one site, becoming fully co-ed by September 2025. This change meant merging two libraries, a daunting but exciting challenge. It presented an opportunity to thoughtfully develop the library service's future.
Building a Library Strategic Plan
Aware of Elizabeth's membership scheme, I decided it was time to pursue this opportunity. I chose the Silver School Membership because I work alongside another librarian. This allowed me to include them in our membership benefits.

My colleague is particularly interested in the role of AI in education. They have found Elizabeth’s webinars beneficial and enjoy participating in the monthly AI group chats over Zoom. We both appreciate the flexibility that comes with webinars held at two different times of day. It’s also nice to see familiar faces during training sessions.
Enhancing Library Services in Schools

One colleague suggested we meet to discuss how inquiry learning could support project qualifications, such as the EPQ. I’m looking forward to this meeting and exploring its potential.
